Two new aeration systems were installed in the lakes at Fairmount Park Monday August 27th. The systems are solar powered and are called SolarBees. One is anchored in Lake Evans and one is in Fairmount Lake. The new systems should prevent a repeat of last year's botulism outbreak and the water should begin to clear within a couple of weeks. You can learn all you want to know, and then some, about SolarBees at http://lakes.medoraco.com/
Also of interest for Fairmount Park, the water in the wells feeding the lakes and providing irrigation water for the park and golf course was tested recently to verify that none of the contamination from the Alark Hard Chrome site on North Main Street had made it's way to these wells. The testing showed it had not and that the water is of good quality.
Funding for the Solarbees were provided through a grant secured through the Riverside Public Utilities
